Judaism Panel (Marianne Schleicher)
Ruptures in Jewish history and contemporary Judaism have left their mark on Jewish religion, literature, and culture. Some ruptures were/are caused by wars, violence, and natural catastrophes; others were/are ruptures of critique and resistance that affect/-ed and mobilise/-d both elite and lay people. The Judaism panel calls for contributions willing to focus on ruptures. What would such ruptures be in Jewish history and/or contemporary Judaism? What caused them? What explains their ability to affect and mobilise? Do Jewish practices and beliefs encourage certain understandings of and responses to ruptures as seen in Jewish religion, literature, and culture?
